New York City Council Education Committee Budget and Oversight Hearings on the Preliminary Budget for FY 2025

On March 18, 2024, Natasha Quiroga, Director of Education Policy and InsideSchools, and Lauren Melodia, Deputy Director of Economic and Fiscal Policies, delivered joint testimony at the City Council Education Committee's Hearing on the Preliminary Budget for FY2025. They made the case for continued funding for the City's 3-K program. Quiroga uplifted her team's work over the past year providing workshops in shelters to over 500 newly arrived migrant families. Approximately one-third of these families have children age 3 or younger. Melodia uplifted the strong and improving fiscal outlook for the city. The City has enough tax revenue to avoid any cuts to the existing 3-K program included in the Mayor's Preliminary Budget.
